MARIANNA: On 02/17/2019 at approximately 6:58 am. officers of the Marianna Police Department responded to the report of a single vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of Lafayette Street and Caledonia Street. Upon arrival officers were able to observe a blue 2007 Toyota pickup truck, lodged within the eastern wall of the Wells Fargo Bank. Officers quickly made contact with the sole occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Matthew Dale Canen of Graceville, and found him to be in need of medical attention. Marianna Fire Rescue and Jackson County Fire Rescue were summoned to the scene to assess his injuries.

During the course of the traffic crash investigation, officers were able to discern, the vehicle driven by Canen left the roadway at a high rate of speed, striking the curb at Caledonia Street. The vehicle continued traveling west, through the parking lot of the Historic First National Bank. The vehicle then struck a chain link fence which encompassed the construction site at the bank, damaging it. The vehicle then impacted the eastern wall of the bank itself, resulting in the building sustaining severe structural damage.
