Travis Dyson, a resident of Ashford, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 23, 2018 at his home with his family by his side after a brief illness. He was 89 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 26, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Judy Dyson and Rev. Bobby Conrad officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Church with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 5-7 pm.


Mr. Dyson was born the son of Jesse James and Emily Cordelia Dyson. He was born and raised in and around the Columbia area, where he farmed the early years of his life. Mr. Dyson married and moved to the Ashford area, where he lived out the rest of his life. After his early farming years, Mr. Dyson became a logger and pulpwood worker, which he did until he retired. Travis Dyson was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. He loved his family, going to church, and fishing. He accepted the Lord in his heart and loved to talk about serving God. To be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord, which he is now starting a new life in a brand-new body. Mr. Dyson was a member of Shady Grove Church.


Mr. Dyson was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse James and Emily Cordelia Dyson, three sisters, Louise Avery, Nettie Bea Spann, and Elouise Bonner, his five brothers, James Dyson, E. C. Dyson, William (Bill) Dyson, Horace Dyson, and Shelby Peterson, one grandchild, Amanda Downing, and one grandson, Jacob Dailey.


Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Luzell Dyson; four daughters, Cathy (Kenny) Downing, Norma (Jimmy) Dailey, Mary (Larry) Adams, and Francis (David) Rhodes; his three sons, Stanley (Lisa) Dyson, Larry Gene Dyson, and Royce (Nancy) Dyson; his 14 grandchildren; his 26 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, cousins; 1 sister-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law; and one special lifelong friend, Norman McDaniel.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Bobby Dyson, James Dyson, Donzell Floyd, William Hulon, John Temples, and Roger Hobbs.
