HOUSTON COUNTY:    11:42 PM      A Houston County Sheriff Deputy came up on two vehicle accident on West Main Street and North Woodburn Road at the entrance to the Emergency Department of Flowers Hospital.

Both west bound lanes are closed.

Two pickup trucks crashed.Patient was transported trauma alert to Flowers Hospital. One person was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

 

Dothan Police Crime Traffic Investigators have been dispatched to the scene to o a detailed investigation based on the seriousness of the accident.

NO DEPUTY has been involved. But Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza is on the scene in the emergency room with the injured.

Dothan Police are investigating.

The driver of one vehicle was killed on the scene. We posted as serious injuries because the victim's sons had to travel from Birmingham and Sheriff Valenza did not want him to know until he got to Dothan.

The fatality victim was picking up his wife from work at Flowers Hospital. He was exiting from the hospital when a truck that was west bound struck his vehicle. 

Houston County Sheriff Deputy Grantham was across the street at Sonic at the time of the accident and was the first unit on the scene.

The wife was transported to the Emergency Department of Flowers Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was taken into law enforcement custody on the scene for suspicion of DUI.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd was notified and responded to the scene.

The wife of the fatality victim asked Deputy Grantham to not leave her. He did not. She also asked him to contact Sheriff Valenza. When contacted Sheriff and Mrs. Valenza immediately responded to the hospital where they remained personally by her side until the sons arrived from Birmingham.

The victim has been identified by Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd as 57 year old Richard Williford. Many know him as Lane Williford.
