Benjamin Boyd Layton

Benjamin Boyd Layton, 72, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2026, surrounded by a family who loved and cherished him beyond measure.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Anderson officiating.  Visitation will be prior to services from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.

Born on December 29, 1953, to Benjamin West Layton and Mary Magdalene Layton, Ben grew up in Columbus, Georgia, before settling in Dothan, Alabama. Throughout his life, he was known for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and the lasting relationships he built along the way.

On September 29, 1980, Benjamin married the love of his life, Lena. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, commitment, and the beautiful life they built together. Through life’s joys and challenges, their devotion to one another remained constant.

Ben was a 1972 Graduate of Columbus Christian School and attended Columbus State for 2 years.  He worked for 5 years as trainee and Manager of Morrison’s Cafeteria in Dothan and Tallahassee, Florida; he worked with Southtrust Bank as VP at the Northside branch before he became a sales agent with ALFA Insurance for 27 years before his medical retirement.

Of all the roles Ben held throughout his life, none were more meaningful than those of husband, father, and grandfather.

Ben took great pride in his grandchildren, Sophia and Wade, who held a special place in his heart. He treasured his role as their grandfather, and the love, values, and memories he shared with them will remain an enduring part of his legacy.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin West Layton and Mary Magdalene Layton, and by his sister, Mary Beth Fobis.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lena Layton, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage; his daughter, Melissa Layton Hall; and his treasured grandchildren, Sophia Hall and Wade Hall.

Benjamin leaves behind a legacy of strength, integrity, devotion, and unconditional love. Although his presence will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he gave will remain in his family’s hearts forever.

While his family grieves the loss of his earthly presence, they find comfort in knowing that love does not end with goodbye. His voice, his laughter, his wisdom, and the memories created over a lifetime will remain forever woven into the hearts of those who loved him.

A husband’s love. A father’s strength. A grandfather’s joy. A lifetime of memories.
