BJ was born on August 29, 1974 in Dothan, Alabama to the late Bobby Joe German, Sr. and Marcia Smith German. He grew up in the Echo and Ozark communities before returning to Dothan, which he proudly called home. He graduated from GW Long High School in 1992, where he was a member of the school’s 1992 State Championship baseball team.
Following high school, BJ attended Wallace Community College and later dedicated over twenty years of service to Michelin Tire Corporation, where he eventually retired. After retirement, he followed his lifelong passion- coaching softball and mentoring young athletes. BJ was deeply involved in the softball community and poured his heart into the SALT softball organization. He served as president of Titans SALT organization and was co-owner of Power Performance Sports Academy. To countless players and families, BJ was more than a coach- he was a mentor, encourager, and steady presence who believed in every athlete he worked with. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched both on and off the field.
BJ is preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of twenty years, Brooke German of Dothan; his cherished daughter, Kinley German of Dothan; three sisters, Debbie Moseley of Dothan, Twyla Shaffield (David) of Crawfordville, Florida, and Nikki Nelson (Greg) of Ozark; niece, Hannah Freeman (David), and their children, Harper and Hatcher, all of Ozark; special family Ray and Kim Arnold, Braxton and Anna Leigh Arnold, and Debra Arnold. The extended SALT softball families and countless players and families he considered his own.
