8:48 a.m.    On Highway 84 West and County Road 445 there is a critical injury accident involving a motorcycle and car.  One vehicle is on fire and part of the roadway is closed at this time.

We will update when we have more information.

DALE COUNTY/LEVEL PLAINS:     On Thursday Ozark – Dale County 911 dispatched a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on Highway 84 at County Road 445 in Dale County near Level Plains. Reports to 911 the motorcycle was on fire.

Lovetown Volunteer Fire Chief Jimmy Dixon was passsig ny immediately after the accident and attempted to extinguish with a fire extinguisher. Level Plains Volunteer Fire Department responded and finished putting the fire out. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead on the scene by Dale County Coroner John Cawley.

Multiple Dale County Sheriff Deputies, to include Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum, responded. ALEA – Trooper responded and was in charge of the accident investigation. Level Plains Police also responded to the scene.

The driver of the motorcycle, who lost his life, has been indentified as Christopher Dana Cote, age 56,  of Enterprise Alabama.

The driver of the vehicle was detained by ICE Officials and transported by ICE to a Montgomery lockup facility.
