Carolyn B. Fortson, a proud veteran and a cherished member of the Blackwoods community in Dale County, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026. She was 70 years old.
Born in Springfield, Vermont, on October 10, 1955, Carolyn brought the enduring strength and warmth of her New England roots down south, where she built a life centered around family, friends, hard work, and joyful service.
A dedicated patriot, Carolyn honorably served her country for two years in the United States Army. Following her military service, she channeled her joyful personality, sharp mind, and passion for helping others into a successful career in real estate. For over 30 years, she worked energetically as both a compassionate property manager and a trusted real estate agent, guiding countless local families through the location, selection, and purchase of their forever homes.
Outside of her professional life, Carolyn was happiest when immersed in nature. An avid outdoorswoman, her absolute favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing. She spent decades sharing this passion with the love of her life, tracking whitetail deer through the woods and casting quiet lines by the water.
Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Tim Fortson, who was her steadfast partner in life and her favorite companion on every hunting and fishing adventure.
Her legacy of love and service lives on through her children: her two sons, Justin Shaw and his wife Tracey, and Clay Fortson and his wife Caitlyn; and her daughter, Jennifer Hamilton and her husband Ted. She was also the incredibly proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Shelby Allen, Jonathan Hamilton, Tyler Shaw, Andrew Allen, Kaitlyn Shaw, and Beau Fortson.
Carolyn’s dedication to her country, her community, and her family leaves behind a lasting legacy. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at Greystone Methodist Church on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Burial services will be family only at a later date.
