ABBEVILLE. . .Carrol Grimes, a resident of Abbeville, passed away Wednesday morning, May 27, 2026, at his home. He was 89.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 1, 2026, in the Abbeville Church of Christ with Minister Kevin Blalock officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

Carrol Grimes was born and raised in Geneva County, Alabama, son of the late Rufus Grimes and Annie Bell Kirkland Grimes. He served his country in the U. S. Navy from 1954 until 1962 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He moved to Abbeville in 1961. Mr. Grimes was a member of the Abbeville Church of Christ. He retired as Head Mechanic and Fire Chief with the City of Abbeville and also served as a member of Abbeville Fire & Rescue. Mr. Grimes formerly served as President of the Alabama Rural Fire Protection Association. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie McCarty, two sisters, Bonnie Merritt and Eleen Creel and two brothers, Roy Grimes and Wayne Grimes.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Sara Merritt Grimes; daughters, Karen Blalock (Bob), Abbeville; and Beverly Elmore (Dane Merritt), Cairo, Ga; a son-in-law, Steven McCarty; brothers, Hayward Grimes, Wicksburg; and Rayford Grimes, Samson; grandchildren, Joshua Blalock (Heather), Kevin Blalock (Mariah), Kay-Anne Morgan (Justin), Hannah Lyons (Andrew), Spenser Johnson (Leslie), Cristi Smith (Chris), and Lucas Elmore; great-grandchildren, Brody, Daniel, Geneva, Jase, Mattie-Lee, Owen Caden, Carleigh, Ari, Hunter, Elvin, J. T. and Kaylee.
