DOTHAN: Last week at the Dothan School Board Special Called Meeting, four of the seven ELECTED Dothan School Board Members voted against every faculty member of the Dothan City School system.
In a 4 to 3 vote, elected school board members Brett Strickland, Melanie Hill, Franklin Jones and Brenda Guilford voted for the qualifications for the next Dothan School Superintendent to have a doctorate and prior experience as a School Superintendent in order to apply. NO ONE in the current system has experience as a School Superintendent.
RSN does not know how this was list was voted on. The seven-member school board denied any participation in preparing these qualifications. These are not the qualifications in the last three advertisements according to School Board Chair Scott Childers. The current Superintendent, Dr. Dennis Coe, made it clear he had no part of it. Well the School Board is the governing authority and since no one knows where the qualifications list came from RSN is unclear how they voted on it. Might file a Violation of the Alabama Open Meetings Law and place each Board Member on the witness stand to get someone to tell the truth!!! RSN has done it before and will do it again.
Elected School Board Member Brett Strickland DOES NOT SEND his children to Dothan City Schools. Melanie Hill has no children.
In attempts to press Melanie Hill to express her reasoning she refused except to say she had phone calls for two weeks and was voting for these qualifications. Hill was very snarky and ran at the speed of light out the back door before she could be caught and asked one-on-one on camera.
If you want your opinion known then Tuesday March 18, 2025, call Melanie Hill at 334-596-9145. Her number is not listed on the school web site. So a lot of people do not know how to contact.
If you want your opinion known then Tuesday March 18, 2025, call Brett Strickland at 334-701-8947. His number is not listed on the school web site. So a lot of people do not know how to contact.
The elected members have a meeting tomorrow night, March 18, 2025, at the old Honeysuckle Middle School where Central Office is located.
The speakers have failed before when people have signed up to speak. RSN is keeping a close eye on those in case they do not work and will be calling the ones responsible out.
The school board members are up for election August 5. Please sign up and run because it is obvious Strickland, Hill, Jones and Guilford are against someone within the system or even in Dothan/Houston County from being the next Dothan School Superintendent.
You know, none of these were ever school board members until they were elected. School Board Member Melanie Hill is the field rep for U.S. Senator Katie Britt. Until Hill was appointed she had never been a field rep for a U.S. Senator. How does one gain experience as a School Superintendent. Well, the same way Strickland and Hill gained experience as Dothan School Board Members and Hill obtained experience as a field rep for a U.S. Senator.
DO NOT SLAP the men and women of the Dothan City Schools as you 4 have. You opening the qualifications as they have always been does not mean you can not select someone with a doctorate. But having a doctorate does not mean you have all of the answers. Sometimes to much means you lack common sense!!!
