Marshall Jean Shantena Leverette, known as Tena to her friends and family, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, in her birthplace of Dothan, Alabama. Born on June 5, 1962, Tena’s life was a testament to her caring nature and her dedication to serving others. She was a loving mother, a devoted sister, and a cherished friend who left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Tena’s journey began as the daughter of Edward M. Cotton and Betty Jean Cotton, who preceded her in death. Her light continued to shine brightly as she nurtured a family of her own. She is survived by her beloved son, Nikko Leverette; Nikko’s father, Anthony Leverette; her steadfast brother, Willie Earl Baker; and her adored nephews, Quentin, Demetrius, Robin, and Christopher Baker, as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her commitment to her family was matched by her dedication to her country and her community. Marshall proudly served in the Army for several years, an experience that honed her innate qualities of strength and resilience. Following her military service, she pursued a career in healthcare, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Troy University in nursing. Tena’s caring spirit found its true calling as she became a retired RN from Southeast Health, where she touched many lives with her compassion and expertise.

Tena’s interests and talents were as diverse as they were profound. She found solace and joy in her garden, where she cultivated not only plants but also a sense of peace and beauty. Her hands were rarely still, as she was often immersed in crafts, ceramics, and woodworking. She was also the proud owner of a crystal shop in Dothan, a place that reflected her radiant spirit and her love for natural beauty.

Music filled Tena’s soul, and she shared her passion as a singer, embracing genres like soul, R&B, disco, and gospel. Her voice was a reflection of her inner light—powerful, soul-stirring, and full of warmth. Those who had the privilege of hearing her sing were often moved by the depth of emotion and energy she conveyed.

Described by those who knew her as loving, thoughtful, and selfless, Tena’s intelligence and energetic spirit made her a warrior in the eyes of many. Her ability to care deeply for others, often putting their needs before her own, was a hallmark of her character. She was a guiding force, a shoulder to lean on, and a source of wisdom and encouragement.

Tena’s legacy is one of love and self-sacrifice. She was a woman who lived her life with purpose and generosity, always striving to make a difference in the lives of those around her. Her memory will be cherished, her lessons remembered, and her spirit will continue to inspire.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 11am in the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel. She will be laid to rest in the New Miranda Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

Harry Wayne Parrish, a man of unwavering faith and generosity, left this world on March 3, 2025, at the age of 76, in his birthplace of Dothan, Alabama. His departure leaves a legacy of love, commitment, and service that will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Born on September 29, 1948, in Dothan, Coach Parrish was a standout individual from his early days. He graduated from Dothan High School in 1966, where he was recognized as an All-State offensive lineman, foreshadowing a life marked by leadership and excellence. Coach Parrish’s passion for football and dedication to his education led him to the University of Alabama, where he began his coaching career while still a student.

Coach Parrish’s professional life was deeply rooted in his love for sports and his community. After completing his degree, he returned to Dothan High School as an assistant coach, where he played a pivotal role in leading the team to the state playoff finals twice. With the opening of Northview High School in 1978, Coach Parrish took on the roles of head coach and athletic director, guiding the Cougars to two state championships. His coaching prowess continued at Early County (Ga.) High School and Daleville High School, where he left a lasting impact on his players and the schools’ athletic programs.

Beyond the football field, Coach Parrish’s talents shone brightly in his career as a financial counselor. His leadership skills were further recognized when he served as chairman of the Dothan City School Board. His contributions to Dothan’s community were honored when the city named the Dothan High School football practice field after him, and his achievements in sports led to his induction into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

Coach Parrish’s life was a testament to his character. He was a man who believed in second chances and made a positive impact on many lives. His love for the outdoors was evident in the care he took of his yard and his enjoyment of the beach. A loyal fan of all sports, Coach Parrish had a special place in his heart for football, often found cheering from the stands of Bryant-Denny Stadium or watching his cherished grandchildren play.

A compassionate Christian, Coach Parrish’s faith was the cornerstone of his existence. He taught Sunday school and lived out his beliefs by extending his time and resources to those in need. His life was defined by honesty, integrity, and loyalty to friends and family. Coach Parrish was a focused man, often described as having a one-track mind, but it was this focus that allowed him to love and support his family fully.

Coach Parrish is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sharon Parrish; his sons, Josh (Mary) Parrish and Hunter (Jennifer) Parrish; his daughter, Jenni (Nils) Skaug; his eight adored grandchildren, Tyler, Erik, Anne, Ayla, Fisher, Colt, Addie, and Charlie; his sisters, Grace Clearman, Sharon Dasinger, Becky Harvard, and Kathy Bryant; and several nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

A celebration of Coach Parrish’s life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Roy Evans, Rev. Greg Clark, Rev. Paul Thompson, and Rev. Floyd Griffin. Coach Parrish will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park. Prior to the service, the family will receive close family and friends at the church from 12:30-2 pm on Saturday.

Harry Wayne Parrish’s life was one of loving service, filled with faith and generosity. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, as a guiding light of what it means to lead a life well-lived.

Louie Mack Bowman, 92, entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday, March 3, 2025. Louie was born on December 2, 1932, in Dothan, AL. He was the 12th of 13 children, and the last surviving child born to Daniel McNeal Bowman and Myrtle Gray Bowman.

Louie joined the Navy in 1955 and served on the USS Segacity until 1957. On August 9, 1958, Louie married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Watkins. They had one son, Steven M. Bowman. 

In 1970, the Bowman family moved to Panama City, Fl. There, Louie worked as an Electronic Technician for the Bay County School District. He was a faithful member and a Deacon of First Baptist Church in Lynn Haven, FL. After his retirement in 2003, he and Shirley returned to Dothan. There, they became active members of Memphis Baptist Church. 

Louie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Jean Watkins Bowman and his son, Steven (Marie) Bowman; two grandsons, Christopher Bowman and Kyle (Marla) Bowman and two granddaughters, Aimee Befort (Dean) and Molly Fannin (J.R.); nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

Pall bearers will be Christopher Bowman, Kyle Bowman, Royce Bowman, Nykeria Bowman, Robert Eckenroth and David Wells. Bobby Blackmon is an honorary Pall bearer.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Memphis Baptist Church. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 with Brother Jim Tate officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery 2390 Hartford Highway, Dothan, AL 36305.

Mr. Willis Broyles (U.S. Navy Retired Petty Chief Officer), age 82, resident of Dothan passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at his home.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday March 9, 2025 at Piney Grove Methodist Church with Mr. Keith White officiating and U.S. Navy Honors.

The family will be receiving friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 P.M. Sunday prior to services at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Piney Grove Methodist Church, 21 Piney Grove Road, Dothan, Al. 36301,

Mr. Broyles was born in Newcomb, Tennessee on July 19, 1942 to his parents, Milford Kenneth Broyles and Rosa Marie Brooks Broyles. He was a retired a Senior Chief Petty Officer (E8) of the U.S. Navy after twenty-two years of dedicated service. After Willis’ retirement in the Navy, he worked at Farley Nuclear Plant as a Procedure Writer for seventeen years. He attended Piney Grove Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Gordon Broyles; two sisters; three brothers.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Dottie J. Broyles of Dothan; son, Kevin R. Broyles (Susan) of Dothan; five brothers; one sister; two granddaughters, Rachel and Makayla Broyles, both of Dothan; several nieces and nephews.

Tracy Marcia Lindsay, known affectionately as Marcy to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on September 13, 1961, in Buffalo, New York, Tracy’s vibrant spirit and infectious laughter left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Tracy’s life was a testament to her loving and selfless nature. She was a beacon of light and strength to her cherished daughter, Ebony Maybin, who survives her. Tracy’s unwavering love and guidance will forever be Ebony’s guiding star. Tracy leaves behind her mother, Paulette Lindsay, and her sisters, Cheryl Fergus and Kathryn Chatmon. Her childhood friend, Ernestine Fuller, and special friends, RaeAnne Vaughn and Ricki Graham, will miss Tracy’s companionship and enduring friendship. While her father, Lafayette Lindsay, preceded her in death, the values he instilled in Tracy remain a legacy that continues through the lives she touched.

An alumna of Troy University, Tracy graduated at the top of her class in Criminal Justice, demonstrating her commitment to excellence and her passion for serving others. Her professional life was dedicated to her role as a DHR case worker for Dale County, where she performed her duties with diligence and compassion. Tracy’s work was not just a job; it was a calling that she fulfilled with grace and professionalism, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and those she served.

Tracy’s zest for life was contagious. A die-hard Buffalo Bills fan, she wore her team’s colors proudly and never missed watching a game. Her love for music was a constant source of joy She relished the simple pleasures of life, from the taste of white cheddar popcorn and poundcake to the thrill of a well-played hand of dominoes or spades.

Known for her laughter, Tracy’s sense of humor was a gift that kept her friends and family smiling even through tough times. She had a knack for finding joy in everyday moments and could light up a room with her presence. Her favorite color, red, was a reflection of her bold and warm personality.

Tracy’s love for travel and adventure took her on many cruises, exploring new horizons and making memories that would last a lifetime. Even when at home, she was an avid TV watcher, always up-to-date on the latest shows and ready to discuss the newest plot twists.

Above all, Tracy’s life was defined by her love for her daughter. She was a pillar of strength, always there to offer support or a listening ear. Her selflessness knew no bounds, and she put the needs of Ebony before her own without hesitation.
