Margaret Ellen Judah, 95, of Winnsboro, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025. She was born on December 14, 1929, in Hartford, Alabama, to Richmond and Bessie Alberson.
On May 9, 1951, Margaret married the love of her life, Lewie Judah, and together they built a beautiful life centered around family and faith. She worked as a seamstress for Van Heusen for many years until her retirement. A talented and loving woman, “Nana” as many would come to call her, found great joy in making clothing for her loved ones, walking, playing games like Uno, and solving crossword puzzles. She was also a wonderful cook, known for preparing meals that brought family and friends together. Above all, she had a deep love for the Lord and cherished every moment with her family.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Dianne Carr and husband Jim; sisters, Linda Brannon Rudd and husband Jim, Vonzene Hand, and Doris Faulk; grandchildren, Julie Thomas and husband Justin, Melody Browning and husband Leon, Don Carr and wife Allie, and Troy Carr and wife Tina; and great-grandchildren, Breanna Irby, Elaina Browning, Gage Vaughn, Cheyenne Vaughn, Christopher Carr, Alania Carr, Tiffany Carr, and Tabitha Carr.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lewie Judah; parents, Richmond and Bessie Alberson; daughter, Janice Vaughan; brother, James Alberson; and grandson, Kevin Vaughan.
Margaret’s kindness, warmth, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 07, 2025 at Highfalls Assembly of God Church Cemetery with burial to follow.
Sherry Kay Farris, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2025 with family by her side. Born on May 6, 1938, in Dale County, Sherry’s life was a testament to the strength and warmth of her spirit.
Sherry was the cherished daughter of the late Marcus J. and Bessie Evelyn Beasley Thompson. Her upbringing in New Brockton was surrounded by love alongside her siblings, the late Barbara Jeanette Stadola, Mary Evelyn Childs, and Terry Marcus Thompson and her surviving sister, Rosemary June Wasness.
Sherry graduated from New Brockton High School where she made lifetime friends. She was married to Omega Farris, who preceded her in death. She embraced her role as a devoted wife and helpmate to her husband, and as a nurturing mother to her children, Gary (Linda) Farris, Lenny (Pat) Farris, Rhonda Farris, and Lori Vilece (Robert). Her family was her pride and joy. She dedicated her life to raising them with love and providing a warm, welcoming home.
Sherry’s hands were rarely still. She helped her husband with his business. She used her carpentry skills to build furniture for her home. She was an exceptional, yet humble, southern cook and was renowned for her Thanksgiving dumplings, dressing and various desserts. She was an avid reader, loving and appreciating other cultures while adding their recipes to her repertoire.
Sherry walked out her faith. She was baptized later in life at Goodman Baptist Church. Her loving, giving heart was an inspiration to others; she was a true Proverbs 31 woman.
She is lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Sarah Marze (James), Amanda Mayhue (Johnathan), Mark, Brooke, Brett, Kaylee Lemon (Marcus), Daniel, and Lindsey, and her two great-grandchildren, Jack and Ava, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Each of them carries a piece of her legacy, her lessons of love, and generosity etched into their hearts. The memories she created should serve as a source of comfort. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who experienced her warmth and kindness.
OZARK…Mr. Henry Dewitt Halger, a resident of Ozark, died late Sunday afternoon, February 2, 2025, in the Birmingham VA Medical Facility in Birmingham. He was 94.

James Herbert Roney, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, left this world peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 94, in Dothan, Alabama.
Born on July 23, 1930, in Headland, Alabama to the late Herbert Roney and Lucy Owens Roney, James’s life was a testament to his faith-filled and passionate spirit. He was a friendly soul whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.
James shared a blissful life with his beloved wife, Anne Chapman Roney. Together, they raised a family that included their children, all of whom will cherish the memories of their good Daddy: Mike Roney (Debra), Gary Roney (Christine), Patti Godwin (Joe), and Cheryl Susemichel (Larry). He was a proud patriarch to his grandchildren, Christopher Roney, Stephanie Susemichel, Emily Susemichel, Dajun Godwin (Jamie), Rowan Godwin (Abby), and Kealani Roney; and he delighted in the joy of his great-grandchildren, Vivian, Caroline, Kyle, Lara Leah, Emerson, Cailin, Giovanah, and Bridger. James’s only brother, Tom Roney (Kay), also survives him and continues to cherish the memories they shared throughout their lives. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the sitters, Sherry, Beverly, Gentiva Hospice, and all who provided compassionate support in helping James care for his wife, Anne.
James’s brief stint at Auburn University was cut short by homesickness, but his entrepreneurial spirit was not to be dampened. He found his calling in the grocery business, owning and operating Roney IGA until his retirement at the age of 80. Under his guidance, the business grew to include several stores, each one a testament to his dedication and hard work.
His passion for life was evident in his many interests. James was an avid aviator, having loved to fly small aircraft. His younger years were spent crop dusting for extra money, a job that combined his love for flying with practicality. His voice, a harmonious instrument, found its home in a gospel quartet, traveling extensively to share music that touched countless hearts. An angler at heart, James loved to fish, finding solace and joy in the stillness of nature.
James was also known as a mentor whose wisdom was sought after by many. He had a gift for offering words of comfort and guidance, and his impact on those he mentored was profound. His membership at Cornerstone Church was a reflection of his commitment to his faith and community, where he was respected and loved by many.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Cornerstone Church with Reverend Bobby Marks officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s hospital or the Wiregrass Area Food Bank Brown Bag Program.

Dorothy Lee Ducker, filled with love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, at the age of 84 in Dothan, Alabama. Born on June 29, 1940, in Florida, Dorothy was a woman of remarkable strength and thoughtfulness, whose legacy is characterized by her unwavering dedication to her family and her deep Christian faith.
Dorothy, was the cherished matriarch of her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank Ducker, her brothers, Wesley Noblin and Rex Noblin, and her parents, Curtis Noblin and Elaine Adams Noblin. Her memory will be honored and kept alive by her three sons, Ricky, Ronald, and Scott Ducker (Jennifer), her beloved grandchildren, James, Charles, Lucas Ducker, and Whitney Davis, as well as her adored great-grandchildren, Riley and Sophia Douglas. Dorothy’s sister, Sandra Sughrue, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends, will forever remember her loving spirit.
Throughout her life, Dorothy was the cornerstone of her household, a homemaker of the highest order who tirelessly tended to the needs of her family. Her hands were rarely still, as she passionately knitted and crocheted, creating beautiful clothes and dresses that were not only garments but also expressions of her love and care. The flowers that bloomed vibrantly around her home were a testament to her love for gardening, a hobby that brought her immense joy and peace.
Dorothy’s life in Dothan, Alabama, was marked by her strong presence and the comfort she provided to those around her. Her home was a sanctuary for all, filled with the warmth of her kindness and the gentle guidance of her wisdom. She was the embodiment of a Christian woman, living her faith through her actions and the love she poured into her family.
Her character was the epitome of thoughtfulness; Dorothy never missed an opportunity to put others before herself, making everyone she met feel valued and important. Her legacy is one of love and service, a path she walked gracefully, leaving behind footsteps for others to follow.

Eric B. Capps, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Noland Hospital. He was 85.
Funeral Services will be held at 2PM Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1PM – 2PM at the church.
Eric was born in Geneva County on May 31, 1939 to the late John and Ada Baker Capps. He attended Geneva County High School, where he met and later married the love of his life, Becky Welch Capps, and they were married for 68 years. Eric always referred to Becky as “the luckiest woman in Dothan”. After moving to Columbus, Georgia to work many years for Central of Georgia Railway, he moved back to the Dothan, retiring after twenty six years as the parts manager for the City of Dothan. His favorite hobbies included fishing, boating, going to the beach, and riding “Clyde”, his zero-turn mower. Eric loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church for forty-nine years. His most cherished times were making lasting memories with his family, with a special fondness for his grands and great grands. Eric was loved by all because he LOVED ALL.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Luke Weeks.
Eric is survived by his wife; children, Donna Weeks (Bruce), Tonda Marsee (John), and Dwain Capps (Monica); grandchildren, Matthew Bullard (Rachel), Hailey Mick (John), Heather Capps, Whitney Sanders (Spencer), Claire Mitchell (Eric), and Bradley Capps (Kristie); fifteen great grandchildren; and sister, Rita Gibbs; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Bradley Capps, Max Lanier, Sam Bullard, Bennett Sanders, Spencer Sanders, and Tony Welch.
