CHRISTOPHER “CHRIS” J. MCCARTY
DOTHAN… Christopher “Chris” J. McCarty, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2026, surrounded by family and friends, at a Dothan hospital. He was 56.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 15, 2026, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Brother Brian Fears officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
Chris was born in Dothan, Alabama to the late James Ware McCarty and Virginia Benton McCarty. Chris lived in Dothan, Alabama his entire life. He was a graduate of the 1988 Class of Dothan High School. He was currently employed with the City of Dothan, in the Environmental Services Department, the Straight-Line Parking Services, and City of Dothan Performing Arts Event Team. He also worked with Houston County Environmental Services. Chris had also worked with several funeral homes in the wiregrass over the years. He was a member of the Cloverdale Methodist Church.
Chris was known for his generous heart, kind spirit, and the way he never met a stranger. Everyone who knew Chris knew they had a friend for life. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back and if you needed more, he would gladly give that too. He loved deeply, laughed loudly, and left an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Throughout his life, Chris built countless friendships and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His sense of humor, loyalty, and caring nature will be missed but forever remembered.
Leaving to cherish his memories are his aunts and uncles, Will and Ceciela McCarty, Bobbie Sylvester, Carolyn McLaney, and Debbie Barrett, all of Dothan, AL, Barbara Benton of Newton, AL, Linda and Gary Yarbrough of Midland City, AL, and Wilbur and Nancy Benton of Prattville, AL; and his numerous cousins.
He is also survived by his special friends, Sharon Coe Simmons, Mary Johnson, and Jan Peel McGregor, who remained by his side with love, laughter, friendship, and unwavering support throughout his final days.
Chris’s canine companion, “Rocky” will miss him also.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Brent Snell, Scott Palmer, Scottie Yarbrough, Blake Johnson, Ryan Smith, Durwood Doswell, Clay Dempsey, and Jodie Dalton. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the City of Dothan Environmental Services Department, his Straight-Line Parking Crew, and City of Dothan Civic Center Event Team.
The family also wishes to thank everyone who visited, prayed, called, and supported Chris during his final days. Your kindness and love will never be forgotten.
Chris’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
