A Few Bible Thoughts For Your Day

Hey Everybody,

I hope things are going well this week so far.  We had a great Sunday here at Enon.

I wanted to spend some time with you today to discuss something that bothers me.  One of the great blessings that comes from my line of work is the ability and opportunity to share the truth about God's message of salvation to those in our church family and the communities around me.  I take great pride in sharing the complete message of Scripture regardless of circumstances or the mood of society at any given time.  Having said that, I am astonished at the number of people in this area who are not being taught the full message of God's salvation and how man enters into Christ in order to receive the spiritual blessings that are available to us.

God clearly gave us His requirements, His plan of salvation, to be followed by those who wish to be saved.  We must, hear the word, believe that Jesus is the Son of God (the Christ), confess that belief publicly, repent, be baptized, and live a faithful life as a Christian.  What I have noticed, in my time as a minister, is the attention that some of these commands receive while others are simply neglected.  The one that strikes me the most is God's command to be baptized.  This command is often taught as an unessential part of God's plan, that you can be saved prior to or without being baptized.  In fact, you could very well be sitting in the audience on Sunday morning listening to a preacher who believes that this is not a necessary step in God's process.  If that is the case, you are not being taught the whole message of God.

I do not wish to anger or upset anyone.  I want to help people find salvation.  Unfortunately, sometimes that causes people's feelings to be hurt or for them to be uncomfortable.  Look at Christ.  His message was true, merciful, loving, and full of grace, yet He was crucified, having done no wrong.  I certainly don't compare to Christ, but to put it frankly, many folks today simply don't want to be told that what they believe is wrong.  But, as a minister, it is my duty to express to you that God's word does not change and does not show partiality.  If you believe something that is contrary to Scripture, you are wrong.  It works the same way with me!  I can believe what I want, and I can preach what I believe, but if what I preach is against what the Scriptures teach, my teaching is a lie.  I will be judged accordingly.

Unfortunately, many good folks are being misled about baptism.  People are being taught that they must believe, they must repent, they must confess Christ, or that they must live a good faithful life.  At the same time, those folks are not being taught that baptism is, in fact and according to Scripture, essential to that process.  In other words, they are being led toward Christ, but not shown how to be "In Christ" where all spiritual blessings are.

This past Sunday I presented a sermon with the title "Between the Sinner and Salvation".  If was a study of baptism that covered several areas of the doctrine.  If you were here, you heard it.  If you were not, I'd like for you to read it.  If you are confused about the role of baptism, you should find some answers in it.  I wanted to attach it here on this site, but could not figure out how to do it.  So, if you are interested, please email me and I will be glad to send it your way.  If you would like more information on salvation and how to be saved, you may certainly email me and/or go to our website www.enon.churchofchrist.info and check out the video "What Must I DO To Be Saved".

I hope our confusion and/or neglect regarding baptism will come to an end.  Don't be led astray by someone who is not willing to teach the whole counsel of God.  God is still waiting to receive those who are obedient to His plan.

Have a great week!
