Hey Everybody,
I hope you are looking forward to a great weekend. I know I am. Here is a little Q & A for your day.
The Question:
Dear Brother: Several years ago we had to fire our preacher. He found a job here in town, but does not attend church. He refuses to have anything to do with the church, including those who were kind and helpful to him while he was with us. What should I do?
The Answer:
“These things command and teach. Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine” (1 Timothy 4:11-13). Paul tells Timothy what a preacher should be and do. Among those is careful attention to his teaching. Also included is a careful attention to a lifestyle that reflects the teaching. If a preacher merely teaches the word and does not apply it in his own life, he becomes no more than a hypocrite. It amazes me that a preacher who insists on godliness in others, will not insist on it for himself.
If you had a strong relationship to this man, go to him personally and let him know that his current actions are not consistent with his preaching. Encourage him to rejoin God's household of faith by participating with the church. If he is unwilling to discuss it, encourage him through cards, notes or other less direct means. Finally, keep him in your prayers, that he will change and will return to God's people. Beyond that, it is between him and the Lord.
I hope this helps.
Have a Super weekend.
