A Little Bible Q & A For Your Day

Good Afternoon,

I hope things are going your way.  I hope you are staying safe in the heat.  If you can, make plans to be a part of the prayer rally Saturday at 9 A.M. at the Farm Center.  This is shaping up to be a blessing for our community and a chance to become a united front against the evil and hatred that seems to be all around us.

For today, here is a little Q & A.

The Question:

Dear Sir:  My husband is not a believer.  He lets me attend services, but with a small child to handle alone it is hard to focus.  I feel so weak in my faith and service.  What should I do?

The Answer:

"Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives" (1 Pet. 3:1).  Peter would tell you to walk in the way of the Christ.  Jesus suffered and did not take His revenge (1 Pet. 2:21-25).  This is what Peter refers to when he says, "likewise" (1 Pet. 3:1a).  Peter defines your task as becoming more like Jesus and through those behaviors perhaps influencing your husband.

This behavior grows from the inside of the believing wife.  "Let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God" (1 Pet. 3:4).  In other words, conform your heart to the will of God in your attitude, in your values, in your spirit.  This will cause a change in your behavior that may influence your spouse to change his behavior.

But, if your husband is so hard hearted as to refuse the influence of Christ-like behaviors, you still come out ahead.  You are closer to the mind of God by being like His Son.  By becoming more Christ-like, you will be able to handle the stress and isolation of being isolated in your belief at home. Whether your husband responds or stays in unbelief, you gain by drawing closer to God through Jesus.

How can you be more Christ-like?  "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Rom. 12:2).  Think on things about God, meditate on Him.  Study His word (2 Tim. 2:15).  Pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17).  Spend some time talking to God and listening to God through His Word and the comfort of those who have served Him for many years.  Do this at the quiet times of your day and at times of worship.

Handling a small child by yourself through a worship assembly can be distracting.  But, in addition to the assembly, you can learn to focus on God at other times, when it is just you and the Lord.  Following your times with God (in or out of an assembly) determine to act as Jesus would, especially around your spouse.  You will find that being Christ-like is its own reward. And, over time, your husband will find it more and more difficult to resist the influence of Christ-like actions.

I hope this helps.

Have a great weekend.
