Hey Ya’ll,

I hope your week is going great.  I hope your weekend is looking positive as well.

I have more copies of the book, "Receiving the Gift of Salvation".  If you are interested, just send me a quick email with name and address and I will get you a copy.  We have had interest in the book so far and would love to be able to send one to you.  It is an easy read with just under 30 pages.  Photo of the book is at the bottom of this post.

For today, here is a little Q & A.

The Question:

Dear Brother:  A brother and I were discussing the day of Pentecost, and whether or not the apostles were baptized that day.  We know the Bible does not address this directly, but, based on your study, what is your opinion?

The Answer:

You are right that this is not answered specifically in the Scriptures.  Jesus had promised, “I will build my church” (Matt. 16:18).  And the church is “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone” (Eph. 2:20).  Jesus had told the apostles that the kingdom would come, during their lifetime, "with power" (Mark 9:1).  And just before He ascended back to heaven, He told them that they would be "baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now" (Acts 1:5).  Then He promised, "you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you" (Acts 1:8).  They were in Jerusalem when the day of Pentecost arrived, and "they were all filled with the Holy Spirit" (Acts2:4).

If you will look carefully at those Scriptures, you will see that the kingdom (church, Matt. 16:18-19) would come when the Holy Spirit came, and that the apostles would be the foundation on which the church would be built. There is no indication that the apostles were baptized on Pentecost.  They had already been prepared for the church by the Lord Jesus, who told them, "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you" (John 15:3).

The Lord Jesus is Savior, and He had the power, even while on earth, to forgive sins and "install" the apostles into the church as the foundation of it.  He did that.  And, so far as we have any record, they did not need to be baptized in order to enter the church, for the Lord had saved them and set them into the church.  Remember, it is the Lord that adds people to His church (Acts2:47; 1 Cor. 12:18).

I hope this helps.
