Each year the Dothan Animal Shelter is inundated with stray animals and phone calls from frantic pet owners trying to find their lost pets following July 4th fireworks celebrations. Even couch-potato pets become scared and run away each year during the events, and the Shelter is asking pet owners to make arrangements to assure their pets are safe and secure during the holiday festivities. If you have a new pet, it's even more important to keep them inside because you don't know how the dog or cat will react to the loud noises. If you're celebrating at home with fireworks, make sure your pets are inside, away from the fireworks and their fallout. And as always, make sure all your pets have collars with identification tags so that the shelter can contact the owner if the pet is picked up as a stray. For more information, please call the Dothan Animal Shelter, 334-615-4620
