Abbeville Christian Academy is proud to announce that the Board of Directors has approved a school-wide technology initiative for the school year of 2012-2013. With much study and discussion, the school has chosen SMART Technologies to provide the technology tools that will accomplish goals set forth in the School Improvement Plan. All classrooms will be equipped with products from SMART Technologies, the foremost leader in classroom interactive board technology. The SMART Board interactive whiteboard is a teaching tool that helps a teacher to present an assortment of teaching strategies to address the learning st yles of students, thus improving the learning results of the students. Combining the simplicity of a whiteboard with the power of the computer, the SMART Board delivers opportunities for dynamic lessons and collaborative learning through a central multi-media device.SMART has placed over 1 million SMART Board interactive whiteboards worldwide. In addition, SMART Notebook software is used to teach more than 20 million students in over 100 countries. Studies and research have indicated that using an interactive whiteboard increased student performance. When the interactive whiteboard is used as a student centered tool, significant gains in student performance can be achieved, particularly for activities that are cognitively challenging and require student discussion. Research and studies indicate that using SMART Board interactive whiteboards during small group learning activities promotes collaborative conversation, successfully engages more students in group work and improves the learning outcomes of students. The ACA teacher will have access to a SMART Document Camera which provides a convenient way to display and explore images of any ob jects (including 3D items) without losing the momentum of the lesson. A SMART Response system will also be available. This is an interactive system that allows the student to respond to questions, thus allowing the teacher to assess the learning and increasing student engagement and participation. This SMART System will be powered by a new Lenovo Think Pad computer that was recently given to each faculty member. In addition to the tools being provided, the faculty and staff will receive training in the use of these tools. This training will be the most pivotal point for the success of this initiative. Due to the importance of training, a team of faculty members and board members is scheduled for a trip to Saint James School in Montgomery, Alabama to learn, experience, and share ideas about the use of this technology. The Saint James School under the leadership of Headmaster, Mrs. Melba Richardson has been using SMART Boards for the past five years. Parents, grandparents, alumni or friends of the school who wish to financially help with this technological venture can make a contribution by simply calling the school to receive more information.
