Dothan, AL  On Feb. 6 the media can help make a huge impact by encouraging members of our community to participate in Houston County Gives Day. It's one extraordinary day to support the organizations that make Houston County special, and it's your chance to make a difference during this energized 24-hour event to promote online giving.  All 18 nonprofits will set up booths at Eagle Eye Outfitters on February 6 from 11:00 – 5:30 to answer questions donors may have and share information on volunteering.

The goal is to raise thousands of dollars in one day for the 18 participating nonprofits in our county. According to other Gives Days in the U.S., the media’s support as a community voice is absolutely critical to the success of this day.  Our greatest need is for you to make sure that our community members are called to action on Feb. 6, as you did in 2012 for the first Alabama Gives Day event.  Other states including Minnesota, Colorado, Ohio and the other markets where Gives Days currently take place have raised millions of dollars for their communities. Our nonprofits are working diligently to spread the word but your ongoing commitment will help by inspiring first-time donors to support us!

There are many ways that you, our friends in the media, can participate on Feb. 6th:

1.       Make it a news event on Feb. 5th and 6th and help create a synergy never seen before. Don’t forget, the goal is to encourage everyone to give either online or in person on Feb. 6.

2.       Encourage your reporters and/or on-air personalities to challenge their Facebook and Twitter followers to join them in making a contribution to one of the many nonprofits participating in Houston County Gives Day by visiting HoustonCountyGives.com. Let them be our social media ambassadors for the day on Feb. 6th.

3.       Send an eBlast encouraging others to join your station in supporting local nonprofits.

4.       Interview participating nonprofits and spotlight their creative marketing efforts.

5.       Run a crawler along the bottom of the screen reminding people to go HoustonCountyGives.com to give.

6.       Incorporate live updates throughout the day with on-air personalities announcing real time totals from the home page of HoustonCountyGives.com and to encourage your coverage area to dig deep and continue giving to the causes that matter most to them.

7.       Be creative, inspirational and just have fun!

About Houston County Gives Day

Houston County Gives Day is a 24-hour event that starts at midnight on Feb. 5th and concludes at 11:59 p.m. on February 6.  Through the combined marketing efforts of the media and our participating nonprofits, local donors will be driven to a central website to make their gift.  Consumers will choose the nonprofit they wish to support and will make their gift. At the conclusion of the event the nonprofit will receive the contact information for their donors, so they can continue to cultivate their donors well after the event. For more information, visit www.houstoncountygives.com or call Sharon Whittaker at 334-673-1010.
