DOTHAN, Ala. – Covenant Hospice is a proud participant in National Volunteer Week, celebrated April 15-21, and has selected the theme “Seasons of Caring.” National Volunteer Week is a time dedicated to demonstrating to the nation that by working together, volunteers have the fortitude to meet challenges and accomplish goals.
“Covenant Hospice volunteers expand and enhance the care and services provided by the Covenant team,” said, Sandi Huster, Director of Volunteer Services for Covenant Hospice. “Over 2,700 volunteers serving Covenant’s 13 branch locations located in North Florida and South Alabama provide companionship and support to patients and their families, as well as a wide range of development, outreach and administrative support services,” added Huster.
Covenant Hospice volunteers have served 73% of all patients admitted and have met 99% of all new requests to support patients and families in 2012. Covenant’s award-winning “Tuck-In” volunteer program, utilizes volunteers to call the homes of all patients weekly to ensure they have everything that they will need prior to the weekend. In 2011, volunteers saved Covenant Hospice nearly $2,000,000 in donated time and mileage. When surveyed, 98% of Covenant’s volunteers indicated that they were highly satisfied or satisfied with their experience.
National Volunteer Week presents an opportunity for individuals, families, nonprofit organizations and government entities alike to celebrate the ordinary people who accomplish extraordinary things through service.
