The Chasity D. Barnes Memorial Scholarship Dinner & Silent Auction will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 6 p.m. at Sterling Event Services, 795 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, Ala. A scholarship will be awarded to a local high school senior in memory of Chasity D. Barnes of Webb, Ala. who passed away in 2009 at the age of 27. Ebony Steele will be the special guest for the evening. The immensely talented Steele is an on-air TV & Radio personality and comedian who serves as co-host on the nationally syndicated Rickey Smiley Morning Show and FOX TV’s Dish Nation. She is also at the forefront of the Atlanta entertainment industry. Perhaps Ebony’s most important tag, however, is her role as a survivor. In 2007, Ebony was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is now a National Ambassador for the Susan G. Komen Circle of Promise. She regularly tours the country to help spread the word and share her story. She was a graduate of Troy University, where she had obtained her Bachelor's and MBA. She worked in the marketing department at Southeast Alabama Medical Center and later in the admissions office of Troy University. About the ScholarshipThe scholarship is made possible through donations from friends and family. A scholarship has been awarded each year since Chasity's death. Donations towards the scholarship fund are being taken online at http://chasitybarnes.org. The scholarship is administered by E.L.E.T.E. (Enlightened Ladies Empowering Through Education) Professional Women's Club in Dothan of which Chasity was a member.Sponsors & SupportersHotel accommodations are being provided by Hilton Garden Inn Dothan. Door prizes and silent auction items will be up for grabs during the scholarship dinner.
