DOTHAN- Friday October 5th from 5-9pm and Saturday October 6th from 10 am until 9pm, PorktoberQue will be held at the Houston County Farm Center. Admission both days is free, and it is open to all ages. There will be live music, fire dancing, polka music, country and rock bands, and children’s activities all weekend. Several community charities are participating in an effort to raise funds, including the Wounded Warriors Project, National Listening Scholarship Foundation, Blue Line Support Group, HOPE (Dothan HS earth awareness group), One Love (Ethiopian Adoption support), Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and many more.
There is also a sanctioned KCBS barbecue competition happening at the same time, where teams are competing for $5,000 in prize money. BBQ tasting will be from 3-4pm in the judges area on Saturday. There is a small fee for the samples of barbecue, and only available on a first come basis. There will be free crafts for kids (while supplies last) put on by the Girl Scouts and on Friday night the first 400 people in the door get a free bottle of Frank’s Hot Sauce.
The event is put on by The Main Event in an effort to host a free fall festival for several non-profits to raise funds while giving the community a free, family oriented activity. There will be numerous activities available for kids for a fee, including an inflatable area, NASCAR simulator racing game, and face painting.
There will also be food vendors and merchandise vendors set up both days for shopping and eating. The Five Star Credit Union dining tent is open with tables and chairs so you can enjoy your food purchases while listening to music.
