DOTHAN - The Internal Revenue Service has partnered with local organizations to provide free tax preparation and e-filing for many tax filers in the Dothan area. Tax filers with household income below $50,000 and those who are age 60 or older are typically eligible for the free help. The sites are staffed by IRS-trained and certified volunteers. "March is a good time to get your taxes done at one of these free help sites," said IRS spokesman Dan Boone. "The wait time is usually much shorter and you can beat the usual filing rush in April."There are eleven tax help sites in the Wiregrass. They are generally located at community centers, libraries, churches and other convenient locations. To locate the closest help site, dial 2-1-1 to reach the Wiregrass United Way 2-1-1 help line or call the IRS toll-free at 1-800-906-9887.
