Everyone looks forward to the Annual Ashford Harvest Day and this year it will be held Saturday, Oct 18 from 10 am to 6 pm downtown on Broadway Street. Students from various Ashford High School organizations such as FFA-Future Farmers of America and SGA-Student Government Association will participate in honoring our area farmers. Cake walks, so very popular last year, will be held during the day and are call for wearing your walking shoes. Each cake walk will be held in front of the music stage which is scheduled with a wide variety of entertainment. Music starts at 10 a.m. Performances begin at 11 a.m. with Joe Harley, and continue to the closing group, Avenue Switch at 5:00 for a one-hour show. Many performers from last year are returning such as Kristen McKayla at noon and the Ashford All Male Choir at 4 p.m.Even four-legged family members are included in this year’s activities…3:30 p.m. is reserved for the Pet Costume Contest sponsored by Lucky Dog Sports Club. We plan to have prizes for the winners and gifts for all participants! So bring your favorite furr-friends dressed and ready to enter. Ashford Heritage Foundation members will be at the Historic Train Depot and Museum. They will offer tours as well as selling t-shirts and custom 2014 or 2015 Ashford Christmas ornaments. The t-shirts show a rendering of the Depot and ornaments depict local businesses. Participating with this group is Wiregrass Steel Wheels Model Railroad Club, a diverse group of railroading enthusiasts of all ages. A visit to the Depot will give you a unique experience to Ashford’s railroad history.A dunking booth is beyond the definition of fun. So be sure to try your skills at dunking our Mayor Jonathan Grecu and others. Other activities include students from Ashford High School FFA holding their annual fruit sale, children’s activities, antique tractors, many of our Chamber business members with booths including Precious One Daycare, Lucky Dog Sports Club, Key Tire Center, Ashford Academy, Oriental Express Chinese Restaurant, United Country Properties South and various vendors with food or arts/crafts. Be sure to stop in Wiregrass Community Pharmacy for an old-fashioned soda fountain treat. Visit with us to experience what Ashford has to offer you.
