Santa for Seniors is a grass roots, volunteer effort to share the Christmas spirit with the Wiregrass seniors who need basic necessities and home repair. Santa for Seniors recipients are clients of SARCOA or one of the senior centers in our seven county regions. Modest wish lists are gathered by case works and then distributed in the Wiregrass area by email, mail, word of mouth or media.
Commonly requested items include sheets and towels, canned goods, blankets, slippers and liquid nutritional supplement (such as Ensure).
There are 86 seniors who have not been adopted.
You can help sponsor a senior by choosing one from the descriptions online at www.sarcoa.org or by calling the SARCOA office at (334) 793-6843. Purchase the requested items, and deliver the gifts to the collection site. Items that are not requested can be included if you wish to do so. Cash donations are used to pay for life-giving items such as prescription medications and emergency response systems and the purchase of larger items not sponsored. The remaining cash will be used over the coming weeks to fund safety-and health-critical home repairs. You can donate through Paypal or send a check to SARCOA at 1075 S. Brannon Stand Road, Dothan, Alabama 36305.
The gift collection site is the former National Guard Armory on Westgate Parkway in Dothan. Hours are Thursday, December 8 (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.), Friday, December 9 (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.), and Saturday, December 10 (9 a.m. – 2 p.m.).
