Funding to support current 2024/2025 season

Southeast Alabama Community Theatre has received a $12,000 grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts to fund its community performance series in the 2024/2025 season.

With these funds, SEACT continues to provide the Wiregrass area with year-round opportunities to connect the community through dramatic arts. These programs invite most ages to learn about theatre, participate in the creation of theatre, and watch live performances. Revenue from the production season also helps fund these activities, which establish SEACT as a place to find meaningful social connections while building unique productions that can be shared with the community.

Participation in the SEACT season brings with it an immediate social circle, and all the networking benefits that come with any team effort. It is an opportunity for people of all talents, skills, and energy, enriching the community financially and artistically. Theatre levels the field among people, where social and economic markers fade as parents, plumbers, teachers, and bank presidents work side-by-side to achieve a common goal. Auditions are open to the community, and there is no cost to participate in SEACT Mainstage productions. These, along with Student Company productions, represent a variety of challenging works that bring a mix of new and classic, comic and the dramatic to the stage including The Outsiders, All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914, Escape to Margaritaville, Alabama Story, and The Lightning Thief.

“We are committed to creating opportunities for volunteers to develop theatre skills, and to present affordable theatre experiences for the community. The Alabama State Council on the Arts is critical to ensuring that SEACT activities are free or low-cost, and that the community can attend and enjoy the presentations,” said Executive Director Jennifer Love Doherty.

The SEACT Student Company presents literary classic The Outsiders this month with two sold-out performances for daytime school audiences, and two public performances on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2:00 PM. Tickets for public performances go on sale Monday. Oct. 7 at SEACT.com. All seats are $22. This play is recommended for ages 12+.
