STATE SALES TAX HOLIDAY

There will be a sales tax holiday beginning Friday, February 22nd at 12:01 a.m. and lasting until Sunday, February 24th at midnight. This holiday covers the 4-percent state sales tax, the 3-percent sales tax. Dothan and Houston County, however, will keep their local sales tax.
The sales tax holiday covers school related items, for example:
- Clothing (e.g. all apparel suitable for general use including sandals, shoes, sneakers)* priced at less than $100 per article
- A single purchase of no more than $750 on computers, computer software and school computer supplies (i.e. not cell phones)
- School supplies, art supplies and instructional materials up to $50 per item
- Books priced up to $30 per book
Items not covered by the sales tax holiday include:
- Clothing accessories (e.g. briefcases, cosmetics, handbags, jewelry, sunglasses that are nonprescription, wallets, umbrellas, wigs/hair pieces)
- computer parts and devices not sold as part of a package with the CPU (Computer) will not qualify for the exemption
- sporting or recreational equipment
- protective equipment
