A once rich sunshine filled bustling city, right in the path and only 40 minutes from, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, is dying a slow death. Once full of hometown pride, multiple merchants, and happy residents all waited patiently for our turn to be swept up in the growth that has exploded all around us. With no light, to bring warmth to germinate fresh seeds, or purify water and, staying dark 24/7, our city will die. Florida has one of the best public records laws in the country (The Sunshine Laws.) However they have some fatal flaws. They were written with broad terms, like "within a reasonable amount of time," and little oversight, they are not regulated properly. Bonifay Florida city officials DO NOT COMPLY with requests often OBSTRUCTING anyone's efforts to obtain a public record. These officials have repealed term limits placed on them by the voter, to ensure they remain in power. Our city slips further away as the residents have no control.
