Did you know that smoking is the leading cause of preventable death? That's right....PREVENTABLE death. That means here in Alabama, we shouldn't have to lose 7,500 people to the harmful effects of smoking. But we do. Every year. This year, the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout is Thursday, November 15th. Be a part of the day by giving up smoking for 24 hours. If you want help to quit for good, call the Alabama Tobacco Quitline at 1-800-Quit-NOW or by web site at www.alabamaquitnow.com. You can receive free counseling with free nicotine patches to help you give up tobacco. You must be in counseling and be medically eligible to receive the free patches. Call 1-800-784-8669 or visit us online at www.alabamaquitnow.com.If you would like to become involved with educating the community regarding harmful effects of tobacco use and exposure to second-hand smoke, please contact the Wiregrass Tobacco-Free Coalition at 334-699-2813.
