Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) grants will give Cottonwood and Newville police more equipment.

Cottonwood will get $24,000 to buy a drug identification device used to scan suspected illegal drugs like fentanyl from a distance.

The device will be shared with departments in Houston, Geneva, Henry and Dale counties upon request.

Newville will receive $37,765 to buy body armor, tasers, communications equipment, first aid kits and other police equipment.
