Obituary from Holman Funeral Home of Ozark – Ozark, Alabama

CW4 David Anthony Kenny (United Sates Army, Retired), a resident of Ozark, passed away early Friday morning September 25, 2026, in Dale Medical Center following a brief illness. He was 68 years old.

In keeping with the wishes of the family, no public funeral services will be held for CW4 Kenny. A private service for close family will be held at a future date. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, with Full Military Honors under the auspices of the United States Army. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark has been entrusted with the arrangements.

David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan Hubbard Kenny of Ozark, AL; his son, David W. Kenny of Pittsburgh, PA; his mother, Kay Kenny of Canton, MI; his sisters, Chris Gardner of Pinckney, MI; Toni Brantley (William) of Savannah, GA; Catherine Johnson of Canton, MI;  his brothers-in-law, Tom Hubbard (Nancy) of Montgomery, AL; George Hubbard (Monica) of Auburn, AL; and his sister-in-law, Helen Reeder of Elba, AL. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, MAJ David L. Kenny (United States Army, Retired); his brothers-in-law, Bradley Gardner and Don Nichols; and his sister-in-law, Martha Nichols.

David was born in Detroit, Michigan, and was a graduate of Benedictine Military School in Savannah, GA. He received a B.S. Degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, graduating Magna Cum Laude.  David began his career in the United States Army as a Field Artillery Surveyor in 1979 and was recognized as an Honors Graduate of Basic Combat Training for exemplary service. Shortly thereafter, he attended Warrant Officer School and was awarded the rank of Chief Warrant Officer to pilot UH-60 Black Hawks.  From 1982 until his retirement in 2002, he advanced to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Four. During his tenure in the U.S. Army, he progressed from Pilot/Pilot in Command to Instructor Pilot and then to an Instrumentation Examiner under the Directorate of Evaluation and Standards at Ft. Rucker, AL.   Throughout his Army career, he received numerous awards and commendations. Among those he was most proud of was his Master Army Aviator Badge, awarded in 1997. His commanders routinely characterized him in his evaluations as a superb officer, role model, and professional soldier, capable of making significant contributions at any staff level in the United States Army. David was a devoted sports fan of the Michigan Wolverines and Auburn Tigers football teams, the Detroit Red Wings ice hockey team, and the Detroit Tigers baseball team.
