Dave Stock is a retired Army pilot and local businessman running for Dothan City Commission in District 4. Not only was Stock an Army pilot, prior to his retirement he was responsible for managing the personnel policies for Army aviation personnel around the world. He frequently traveled to the Pentagon, in addition to numerous major Army commands, as he led and managed Army aviator recruiting, retention, promotions, training, and career models.  He’s currently a senior vice president managing a major defense contract at Fort Rucker, in addition the being the owner of The Forum event venue in downtown Dothan.

Dave Stock has been a leader in the redevelopment of downtown Dothan over the past three years. After selling the very successful flight school he started from scratch, he began identifying downtown properties that were eyesores and a danger to the community.  Dave set out to renovate The Forum’s building while demolishing the surrounding old buildings to create new growth opportunities.  Dave has first hand knowledge of working with the city, getting projects through committees, and going before the commission. He’s frequently been seen at commission meetings, ceremonies, and other city business.

Dave Stock has lived in Dothan since 2012 and has been active in his church, the Young Eagles youth flight program, Rotary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Army Aviation Association of America. Dave knows Dothan, Houston county, and the billion dollar military complex just to the West called Fort Rucker. He grew up in a large, working class family and often reflects on his humble beginnings cutting grass to buy his own shoes and receiving free lunches at school. He says he knows what it’s like to be poor, as well as to be successful, and will use his decades of military and business experience to make smart choices for Dothan.

Dave joined the race for city commission because he feels he’s the best candidate for the job.  He won’t complain if he’s not happy about the direction of the city or the other candidates in the race, he will volunteer to step up, serve, and lead. And by volunteer he means work for free. Dave is the only candidate who pledged to donate his commission salary to local youth charities.  He also claims to be self funding his campaign to prove to his constituents that he’s loyal to them and not special interests.

Dave Stock is running to replace Commissioner John Ferguson who served for the past 12 years. Dave has quite an impressive resumé, is putting his money where his mouth is, and is willing to work for free while supporting local youth charities. He’s a serious candidate who deserves serious consideration.
