Mr. Davy Keith Daughtry of Dothan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the age of 70.
Born on May 7, 1956, in Mobile, Alabama, Davy grew up in Samson, Alabama. In 1973, he answered the call of duty by enlisting in the United States Navy, embarking on a distinguished 30-year career that took him around the globe. Throughout his dedicated service, he was stationed with numerous commands and vessels, including the USS Hassayampa, USS Lexington, Naval Administration Command (Orlando, FL), Air Anti-Submarine Squadron 31, Naval Hospital (Orlando, FL), Naval Facility (Brawdy, Wales, UK), USS Wasp (which he proudly helped commission), Naval Amphibious Base (Little Creek, VA), USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, FCTCL (Dam Neck, VA), Naval Support Activity (Norfolk, VA), and finally the USS Mount Whitney, before retiring in 2003.
In 2006, Davy returned home to Alabama alongside his family. Upon settling in Dothan, he began a fulfilling second chapter of service as a Veteran Service Officer for Houston County, eventually rising to Chief Veteran Service Officer. Over two decades with Alabama Veterans Affairs, he poured his heart into advocating for and supporting his fellow service members.
Davy brought warmth, generosity, and joy to everyone he met. A natural caregiver who served others without expecting anything in return, he will be remembered as a deeply devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend—and a passionate Alabama Crimson Tide fan. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Morton and Easter Daughtry; his brothers, Jerry and Jay Daughtry; and his sister, Frances German.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marion “Betsy” Daughtry; his sons, David Daughtry (Kendall) and Andrew Daughtry (Hannah); his two cherished grandchildren, Traelor and Frank Daughtry; his brothers, Galen Daughtry, Ricky Daughtry, and Steve Daughtry (Jamelle); his sister, Scelette Morris; a large extended family of beloved cousins, nephews, nieces; friends; and his two faithful four-legged companions, Ellie and Freya.
“Fair winds and following seas—you have reached your final harbor.”
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home, with Reverend Doug Seale officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, one hour prior to the service.
