Tuesday’s Dothan City Commission meeting was all about the establishment and not the people. The city wanted to approve over $12M for a new “community” center near the wiregrass safety center. D3 Commissioner Bradley Bedwell and D4 Commissioner Dave Stock were concerned about the skyrocketing budgets for these kinds of projects. After Stock and Bedwell spoke about our need to save money so we can fund projects that our residents actually care about, D6 Commissioner Crutchfield made the laughable statement that the city always does things the most affordable way possible and building for the future. Bathroom Floor to ceiling tile at 75k, $750K sound systems, $1M HVAC, fancy cedar beams and plank, and all the expensive industrial design features you can imagine have nothing to do with building for the future and it’s definitely not being good stewards of our tax dollars. Thank you Stock and Bedwell for showing that true conservatives care about not only stewardship, but the people as well.
This building is needed and will be used by our law enforcement and other agencies, but let’s be real there won’t be many “community” event rentals being held in that $12M building. It could also be built for $10M without reducing the size one bit if they just tried to build it to like a Timex watch instead of a Rolex. When Dothan residents want to complain about their leaders not doing what they want or having money for anything, just remember that Stock and Bedwell were the only ones to challenge the Taj Mahal spending that will probably result in you getting higher taxes or utility bills.
