Most people know that the city of Dothan takes care of itself. It has a robust police and fire department and even its own utility department. Often times Dothan provides its services and support to help Houston County because they also have heavy equipment, personnel, and resources to do just about anything. That’s not to say Houston County doesn’t occasionally help the city of Dothan, but there’s no doubt that Dothan has 3-4 times the budget and resources as the county.
The only reason Brandon Shoupe got re-elected Tuesday is because of Dothan residents, and he does nothing for them.
Dothan residents take notice…Shoupe got destroyed at the polls all around Houston county where county people actually need a leader to fight for them, and county residents were loud and clear that Shoupe wasn’t taking care of them. Dothan elected someone who’s been in county government for almost 12 years and does nothing for them, and somebody county residents clearly didnt want.
What should really make people think is this: John Rogers didn’t really run a great campaign and he wasn’t well known. I’ve followed a lot of races and he could have done even better with some minor adjustments. That’s not a dig on Rogers, he’s not a career politician like Shoupe and some others in this town. My point is that he almost beat an establishment guy who was far better funded and had every advantage in the world against an unknown candidate trying to figure it out. Shoupe may be happy that Dothan residents got him re-elected, but he can’t be proud of the major rebuke County residents delivered loud and clear Tuesday night.
Hopefully the county and city folks who vote in the upcoming run-off election will give Chris Love a chance to be their voice. He’s earned it!
