MONTGOMERY -- Sen. Scott Beason, R-Gardendale, has introduced his own version of an immigration bill that makes fewer changes in Alabama's original stringent 2011 law than another bill well-advanced before the Legislature, Birmingham News writer Kim Chandler reports.

The Gardendale Republican said he believes the state should not change certain segments of its statute before the U.S. Supreme Court rules on identical provisions in Arizona's immigration law. The court will hear arguments Wednesday. Beason, along with Rep. Micky Hammon, R-Gardendale, sponsored the state's original 2011 law. Hammon is sponsoring the revisions bill for the current law.
