Evelene Harden Sizemore, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on May 21, 1932, to the late Reese Samson Harden and Myrtle Dasinger Harden, Evelene was a cherished figure whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend Ruben Sizemore, her great-grandson Kavin Sizemore, her parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
Evelene’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith and devotion to her family. She was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family, including her sons, Tommy Sizemore (Carla), Ruben Sizemore, Jr. (Vicki), and Sammy Sizemore (Joy). Her legacy continued to flourish through her 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Evelene also held a special place in her heart for her sisters, Linda Floyd and Sybil Dixon, her brothers, Reverend Jerry Harden and Robert Harden (Sue), a special sister-in-law Merle Harden, a special niece Shirley Sizemore, and her special caregiver Mallory Ott. Her life was further enriched by the love and laughter of numerous nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Rehobeth High School, Evelene embraced her role as a pastor’s wife with grace and dedication. She was the oldest member of Harpers Joy Assembly of God Church, where she was deeply involved and respected for her unwavering support and commitment. Evelene’s life was a reflection of her faith, and she served her community with a spirit of kindness that will be remembered by all.
Evelene’s interests were a mirror of her love for her family. She was an exceptional cook, known for her fresh fried chicken and cheese biscuits, which brought joy to many family gatherings. Her family was her heart, and she poured her love into every meal she prepared, every hug she gave, and every word of encouragement she shared.
Those who knew Evelene would describe her as loving and generous. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special and cared for. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to have been a part of her life.
Funeral services for Evelene will be held at 11 AM, Monday, February 2, 2026 from Harpers Joy Assembly of God Church with Reverends Eddie Littlefield, Thomas Harrison, and Jerry Harden officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 AM until 11 AM, Monday prior to the service at the church.
