George Dewey Currie, a resident of Louisville, Alabama, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Troy Regional Hospital in Troy, Alabama. He was 90 years old.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Louisville, Alabama, with Rev. Curtis Rich and Rev. John Daniel Johnson officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in the Glover Funeral Home Chapel in Clayton from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted.

George Dewey was born on October 3, 1935, in Barbour County, Alabama, to the late George Calvin and Bertha M, (Sanders) Currie. He retired as plant manager for Louisville Pecan Company with over 60 years of dedicated service. George Dewey was a great carpenter, electrician, and plumber and often helped people in the community with anything they needed. He enjoyed farming, cooking, where he was well known for his pecan/peanut brittle, Brunswick stew, baked ham, along with many other family favorites. George Dewey also enjoyed fishing, wood working, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with them. His legacy as a wonderful daddy, granddaddy, great granddaddy, and great-great granddaddy will never be forgotten. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served over the years as deacon, cemetery committee, and maintenance committee. George served on the Barbour County Alfa Farmers Federation board and the Barbour County School Board.

He is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Marjorie Lynette (Harden) Currie; son, Timothy Gerald Currie; sister, Dorothy Jean (Currie); brother, Billy Frank Currie.

Left to cherish his loving memories are his son, Lynn Currie (Reba); daughter, Edwina Dykes; special friend, Ruby Nell Olds; nine grandchildren, Jason Currie (Carmen), Jeremy Currie (Ashley), Jamie Dykes (Jessica), Melanie Hagler (Nate), Tiffany Kilpatrick (Tim), Jennifer Knight (Al), Melissa Wise (Kevin), Kimberly Newgard (Aaron), and Shane Currie (Callie); twenty five grandchildren, Ruger Currie, Case Currie, John Foster Hamm, Gage Dykes, Emma Dykes, Joli Dykes, Drover Dykes, Kinsley Kilpatrick, Jaxon Baker, Natalee Hagler, Finley Hayes, Nora Hayes, Emerson Kelly, Megan Walters, Matt Walters, Austin Wise, Aubrey Wise, Mason Shaffer, Briana Shaffer, Isabella Newgard, Asher Newgard, Alice Newgard, Brandon Currie (Whitney), McKenzie Bundy (Tyler), and Emma Currie; five great-great grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are Jason Currie, Jeremy Currie, Jamie Dykes, Chris Currie, Nate Hagler, Steve McLendon, Jeffrey Dykes, and Aaron Newgard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Currie, Homer Henson, Mike Abercrombie, and Tommy McLendon.
