Gloria Strickland Rogers of Slocomb peacefully joined the Lord on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Southeast Health. She was 81.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Slocomb, with Rev. Brad Price officiating. Interment will follow at the Slocomb City Cemetery, under the direction of Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb. The family will welcome friends at the church starting at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that memorial contributions be made in Gloria’s honor to First Baptist Church of Slocomb, Legacy of Hope, or your favorite local animal shelter. These gifts would be a meaningful way to honor Gloria’s memory and the causes she held dear.
Born on September 21, 1945, in Dothan to the late Raymond and Mary Rash Strickland, Gloria dedicated her life to education and service. As a teacher at Highland Elementary School, she inspired countless young minds until her retirement. Her compassion extended beyond teaching; she volunteered at the Chrysalis Home for Girls, bringing hope and love to many.
A devoted member of Slocomb First Baptist Church, Gloria served her congregation with joy, teaching Sunday School, mentoring youth, and participating in mission trips. Her faith and commitment deeply touched those around her. She loved God and desired for others to know Him.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Joe Earl Rogers, and her nephew, Brandon Hendrix, all preceded her in death.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Michele Mynard (Jody); son Joe Earl “Joey” Rogers Jr. (Michelle Marquardt); grandchildren Noah, Hannah McKee (Jeremiah), Hope Mynard, Camryn Craig (Grant), Madison Workman (Jake), Justin Rogers, and Skylar Marquardt; several great-grandchildren; sister Tonya Maurice (Craig); nephew Grant Hendrix (Lekresha); great-niece Addison Hendrix; great-nephew Jarrett Hendrix; numerous extended family and friends; and her beloved dog “Otis.”
Gloria’s legacy of love and service remains cherished in the hearts of those she touched.
