Helen Smith Turner, age 75, of Ozark, Alabama, passed away on August 3, 2026, in her home with family and friends. She was born on September 1, 1950, in Donalsonville, Georgia, to the late A.W. Amith and Suth Sheffield Smith, and lived a life marked by warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Helen grew up in Donalsonville where she developed the cheerful and friendly spirit that would define her throughout her life. Those who knew her would readily attest that she possessed a rare and genuine happiness, a natural ability to make others feel welcome, and a loving heart that touched everyone she encountered.

Helen carried herself with a gentle, cheerful spirit that touched everyone she met. She was loving, selfless, and friendly, and those words reflected the way she lived each day. She had a warm presence, a gracious heart, and a natural ability to make others feel welcome and cared for. Her life was centered on the people she loved.

Helen embraced her role as a proud housewife. She took great pride in caring for her home and family, and she approached that calling with diligence and responsibility. She was a woman of steady character and quiet strength, and she was admired for the care she gave to those around her. Her life reflected a deep sense of purpose in her family responsibilities.

Faith was an important part of Helen’s life. She was a Christian and found comfort and strength in her beliefs throughout her life. She attended Highpoint Church in Enterprise, Alabama. Her faith was reflected in the way she treated others, with kindness, humility, and compassion. She lived with gratitude and grace, and her church involvement was one more expression of the devotion that shaped her life.

Helen especially treasured her role as a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Hume, and her son, Chad Higginbotham (Angie). She was a proud grandmother to Quint Hume, Kinley Higginbotham, and Brantley Higginbotham. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her love for them was constant and unconditional. She also leaves behind very special friends, David and Melba Lassy.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, W.R. “Buck” Turner, whom she married in 1983 and shared her life with until his passing in 2021. Their marriage was a lasting partnership built on love, commitment, and shared devotion. Helen also was preceded in death by her parents, A.W. and Ruth Smith; by her brothers, Larry Smith and Gregory Smith; and by her sister, Merilyn Sowell. She is survived by one sister, Karen Kimbrel.

Helen enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and found happiness in the things that made a home feel warm and inviting. She loved to cook and entertain friends and family, and she was happiest when gathered with the people she loved. She was an avid reader and appreciated the comfort and companionship found in a good book, especially her Bible. She also enjoyed spending time caring for her flower garden and surroundings, and she had an appreciation for the beauty of everyday life. Her interests reflected her thoughtful nature and her desire to create joy for others.

Those who knew Helen will remember her as cheerful and friendly, with a heart that was always open and a smile that could brighten a room. She had a way of making others feel at ease, and her kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her life was a blessing to her family and to all who were fortunate enough to share in it. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, faith, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
