Henrietta Calhoun Smith was born on September 4, 1938, in Pike County, Brundidge, Alabama, to the late Richard Calhoun and Lucille Smith. She was the seventh of eight children, consisting of five girls and three boys.

At an early age, Henrietta accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a devoted member of St. Joseph Baptist Church in Pansey, Alabama.

Henrietta found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed watching the Food Network, working crossword puzzles, playing Phase 10, and spending time with her grandchildren. Most days, she could be found sitting in her chair with her loyal puppy, “Kidd Boy,” nearby. In her younger years, she traveled overseas, including Germany, and worked on aircraft for many years. She later retired from Ashford High School, where she faithfully served students in the cafeteria. Henrietta was known for her sweet voice, kind spirit, and her ability to form meaningful bonds with everyone she met.

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 7:05 AM, Henrietta peacefully departed this life.

Smith; her daughter, Annie Mae Mayes; her granddaughter, Shameka Mayes; her great-grandson, Alan Aziz Khan; her niece, Nakina Shay Smith; three sisters, Dorothy Jean Logan, Inez Hardrick, and Richie Lois Jackson; and one brother, Gene Otis Calhoun.
