
Herman J. Hobbs passed away peacefully at his residence Friday, March 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Shady Grove Church in Pansey, AL with Reverend Judy Dyson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 5-7 PM at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Darby and Pearlie Mae Hobbs; his loving wife of 64 years, Ruthie Mae Hobbs; sons, Richard Hobbs and Robert Hobbs; siblings, Audrey Racicot and Cathy Castellanos; brother-in-law, Shorty Andrews; grandson, Stanley Hobbs; and daughter-in-law, Wanda Hobbs.
Herman is survived by his sons, Billy (Molly) Hobbs and Roger (Peggy) Hobbs; daughter, Hollie Hobbs (Allen); and son-in-law, Cory Burgess. He is also survived by his brothers, Marlin (Betty) Hobbs, Clint (Brenda) Hobbs, and Ernie Hobbs; and sisters, Annette (Gene) Hedrick and Irene Andrews.
He was a proud grandfather to 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He shared a special bond with his nephew, Michael Harrison, and had a deep love for his many nieces and nephews. Herman worked as a roofer for over 50 years, known for his dedication, craftsmanship, and tireless work ethic.
He was also a faithful member of Shady Grove Church for 35 years, where he served as a deacon for 8 years. Above all, he was a family man whose presence, stories, and laughter will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bruce Hobbs, Joshua Hobbs, Jonathan Hobbs, Brandon Hobbs, Donald and Roger Epley.
