Houston County government shared a post on their Facebook instructing people not to get on the roads just yet.

“We strongly urge everyone to avoid driving for the next few hours,” the post said. “Please wait until temperatures rise and the ice on bridges and shaded roadways has had time to melt. Your safety is our priority.”

Houston County Sheriff Major Bill Rafferty said HSCO responded to 15 accident calls since noon Tuesday — one of which happening just as RSN reached out to him. This statistic does not include wrecks the City of Dothan responded to.

Dothan was most recently still planning to open roads at 10 a.m., but crews are still making assessments on road conditions.

“We are working with various departments to compile a list of current road conditions,” a post from their Facebook said.

Dale, Henry, Geneva and Coffee Counties have all said roads remain unsafe. Roads are still deemed impassable.

Dale County has reported many spots of black ice.

Coffee County reported Hwy 167 North is closed due to ice on hills.
