James Huey Hartzog, Jr., a resident of Clayton, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 29, 2026. He was 90 years old.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Glover Funeral Home Chapel in Clayton, with Rev. Bob Cox officiating. The burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jr. was born on March 29, 1936, in Barbour County, Alabama, to the late James Huey, Sr. and Callie C. (Brown) Hartzog. He worked all his life as a farmer and a carpenter. Jr. loved sitting outside watching people go by and most times people would stop by for a chat. He also enjoyed hunting. Jr. was of the Methodist faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Sherrie McNabb Hartzog; three brothers, Kency Hartzog, Donald Hartzog, and Richard Hartzog; two sisters, Catherine Howerton and Lenora Johnson; brother-in-law, Jerry Mathieu.
Survivors include his two daughters, Margie Cole (Anthony) and Dana James (Keith); brother, Larry Hartzog; sister, Imogene Mathieu; five grandchildren, Julie Harp (Michael), Jesse Jenkins, Sherrie Partee (JJ), Katie James, and Nicholas Cole; brother-in-law, Leon Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Hartzog and Glenna Hartzog; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; special best friend, William Burks.
Active pallbearers will be Wayne Faulk, Austin Martin, Andrew Hartzog, Will Fenn, Doug Ward, and Justin Eubanks.
Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Hartzog, William Burks, and Lee Fenn.
