ECHO COMMUNITY. . .Jo Ann Woodham Ammons, a resident of the Echo community of Dale County, passed away early Monday evening, August 10, 2026, in a Dothan hospital. She was 78.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, (2570 County Road 67, South, Midland City) with Pastor Luke Westbrook officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 5:00 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jerry Ammons, 508 County Road 46, Midland City, AL 36350.
Jo Ann Ammons was a lifelong resident of the Echo community in Dale County, daughter of the late Robert Velma Woodham and Frances Kirkland Woodham. She was a 1966 graduate of Dale County High School in Midland City. Jo Ann was a member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church where she served as church pianist and was active in most church activities. She was also very active in her great-grandsons’ events.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Jerry M. Ammons; a daughter, Gayle Ammons Greenwell (Steve), Echo community; a son, Greg Ammons (Andrea), Niceville, FL; grandchildren, Robert Johnson (Heather), Tyler Johnson (Sami), and Max Ammons; great-grandchildren, Noah Johnson, Conway Johnson and Henry Johnson; a brother-in-law, Jack Ammons (Eldora).
