HEADLAND. . .Joe Lane Hodges, a resident of the Blackwood Community, near Headland, passed away early Sunday morning, August 2, 2026, at his home. He was 84.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 5, 2026, in the Blackwood Church with John E. Kennedy and Joe Harris officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Joe Lane Hodges was born in Newville and was raised in the Blackwood Community. He was a 1960 graduate of Newville High School. Joe Lane was retired as District Supervisor from the Alabama Department of Transportation in Ozark after forty years employment. After retirement, he pursued full time farming. Joe Lane was a member of Blackwood Church and also served on the Headland Peanut Co-Op Board of Directors for many years until his passing. He was a hard-working family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson. Joe Lane was a passionate fan of NASCAR and drag racing. He was preceded in death by his father, James Shelby Hodges, his mother, Ruby White Hodges Henderson, a sister, Anice Graves and two brothers, Kenneth Hodges and Shelby Hodges.
Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-five years, Patricia Bond Hodges; daughters, JoAnn Hodges Phillips (Rocky), and Joy Hodges Davis (Andy), a son, Joey Hodges (Suzanne), and a sister, Janice Hodges Green, all of Headland; grandchildren, Ryan Phillips (Megan), Haylee Stringer (Nick), Andrew Davis and Lane Hodges; a great-grandson, Davis Stringer; sister-in-law, Patsy Jordan (Bill), and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Dan Bond (Cindy).
Serving as active pallbearers will be Bill Dunaway, Jody Enfinger, Joe Don Marshall, Rodney Brown, Ken Hodges, Edward Earl White, Trey Hodges and Bryson Sowell.
