Mr. John Bennett Methvin, age 86, a resident of Eufaula, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Wilkinson and Dr. Ken Bush officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Louisville, Alabama. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted.
John was born on December 25, 1938, in Eufaula, Alabama, to the late James Thomas, Sr. and Mattie Elizabeth James Methvin. He was a graduate of Eufaula High School and 22 years later attended Augusta Technical College. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served from 1958-1962 and he was also a veteran of the United States Army where he served from 1962-1975. John worked for many years as an insurance agent and during this time he worked for State Farm and American General, both in Augusta, Georgia. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and supporting his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a member of the Free Masons, Scottish Rite, and First Baptist Church of Eufaula, where he taught RA’s and Sunday School for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James Thomas Methvin, Jr., Joseph Milton Methvin, Ray Methvin, and Jerry Methvin; sister, Vivian Tetro.
Left to cherish his loving memories are his wife of 61 years, Ruby J. Sanders Methvin; son, Robin Keith Ammons (Danielle); two daughters, W. Gail Mathis (Walter) and Lynne A. Scott (Richard); brother, Kenneth Kelly Methvin (Teenie); six grandchildren; Jared R. Mathis (Brittany), Jordan A. Scott (Julia), Mallory R. Scott, Tyler M. Ammons (Meredith), Patrick E. Ammons (Mallory), and Alec J. Ammons (Ashley); seven great-grandchildren, Macy J. Mathis, Cameron J. Mathis, Harper J. Scott, Sage O. Scott, Hazel G. Ammons, Walker J. Ammons, and Lincoln O. Ammons; many loving nieces and nephews.
Asked to serve as pallbearers are Jared Mathis, Jordan Scott, Tyler Ammons, Patrick Ammons, Alec Ammons, and Andy Tetro.
