John William Jackson, 90, a resident of Cottonwood, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Southeast Health, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Cottonwood with Reverend Jimmy Bolin officiating. Burial will follow at Cottonwood City Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home of Dothan directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m., prior to the service.
John was born on September 25, 1934, in Cottonwood to the late John William & Bertha Lee Jackson. He spent the early years of his life in Cottonwood and was a 1952 graduate of Cottonwood High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for 3 years. After his military service, John worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an Electronics Technician for 35 years. During his career he lived and worked in places such as the Panama Canal Zone, Greenwood, Mississippi, and Warner Robins, Georgia. Following his retirement, they relocated back to Cottonwood, where he was member of First Baptist Church of Cottonwood.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Jackson Smith; his brother, Charles Jackson; and his sister, Betty Draeger.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joanne Jackson of Cottonwood; his three children, Janie Thaxton (Van) of Peachtree City, GA, Johnny Jackson (Mimi) of Carrollton, GA, and Anne Rainey (Karl) of Warner Robins, GA; his four grandchildren, Clint Thaxton, Molly Breyne (Matt), Sam Smith, and Will Smith; and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Sam Smith, Will Smith, Clint Thaxton, Matt Breyne, and Emory Breyne.
Honorary pallbearers will be Van Thaxton and Karl Rainey.
