It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Joseph “Joe” Woodrow Swain of Enterprise, who peacefully departed this life on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by the loving embrace of his family.
Born on March 13, 1943, in Coffee County to the late Ross and Annie Bee Hartley Swain, Joe’s life was marked by steadfast dedication and a warm spirit. A proud graduate of Coffee Springs High School, Class of 1961, and McArthur Technical School, Mr. Swain devoted over four decades of his professional career to the Southeast Alabama Gas District, exemplifying loyalty and commitment in all his endeavors. He was an active and cherished member of Enterprise First Baptist Church, where his faith was a cornerstone of his life. Joe treasured the simple joys of life—spending cherished moments with his family, tending to his garden, fishing, and immersing himself in music and the reading of his Bible. His passions also extended to spirited support for the Atlanta Braves and the Alabama Crimson Tide, reflecting his fervent love of sport. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father, whose affection for his daughters was as boundless as the stars he lovingly gave them.
Preceded in death by his beloved parents, George and Annie Swain, Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Linda Meadows Swain; his daughters, Leigh Tilman (Chris) of Cape Coral, Florida, Shannon LeMaster (Jeff) of Trussville, Alabama, and Brandi Flinders (Greg) of Sparta, Tennessee; and his cherished grandchildren, Joey, Emily, and Carolanne, as well as a host of extended family and friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
A graveside service celebrating Joe’s remarkable life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Hartford City Cemetery, with Reverend Ben Bowden officiating. Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb is honored to assist the family during this time.
As we honor the legacy of Joe Swain, we remember a life well-lived—a life of love, faith, and unwavering devotion to family and community. May his memory remain forever a blessing.
