
Kenneth Edwin Horton, known as Kenny, passed away on October 6, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 68.
Kenny was born on December 31, 1957, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and he carried the values of his hometown with him throughout his life. He graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School and was proud of the roots and relationships he built in the Tuscaloosa area. He attended Porter St. Paul CME Church in Northport, Alabama, where his faith and fellowship were an important part of his life.
Kenny worked as a concrete finisher. He approached his work with dedication and took pride in doing a job well. Those who knew him understood that he was a man who believed in hard work, honesty, and showing up for others when they needed him.
He was known by many as someone who never met a stranger. Kenny had a warm personality, a kind heart, and a gift for making people feel welcome. He was fun to be around, enjoyed helping others, and had a way of bringing laughter into any room. He was a devoted Alabama football fan and took great joy in cheering on his team. His sense of humor and easygoing spirit left lasting impressions on family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Kenny is survived by his son, Kenneth “Ray” Horton; his sister, Vanessa Horton Young; his brothers, Leon Horton and his wife, Geraldine, of Tuscaloosa, Larry Horton of Tuscaloosa, and David Horton of Tuscaloosa; his stepmother, Mary Louise Horton of Northport; his stepbrother, Danny Ray Barron; his stepsister, Ethel Robertson; his brother-in-law and good friend, Dr. Ken Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish his memory and carry forward the love he shared with them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Horton; his mother, Mary Lee Horton; and his brothers, Henry Carl Horton and Johnny Ray Horton. Their memories remained a part of his life, and he now rests in eternal peace reunited with those who went before him.
The family extends sincere appreciation to SouthernCare Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Kenny during his final days. Their kindness and support were deeply appreciated and will not be forgotten.
A celebration of Kenny’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 2pm in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ken Young officiating. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 1pm until 2pm. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
